New Field Crop Varieties
Thailand based research institute is offering technology of new field crop varieties for better crop production. The details of the various varieties are as follows: Mungbeans Variety Chai Nat 72: It was improved by mutation technique using gamma rays from the original variety; Kamphaeng Saen 2. It has moderate resistance to stem borer, compared with Kamphaeng Saen 2 which shows susceptibility. The average grain yield of Chai Nat 72 is about 1,325 kg/ha. Soybeans Variety Chiang Mai 3: It was derived from the cross between G9946 and AGS17. It shows high yield, which is about 2,062 kg/ha (7% higher than that of Chiang Mai 60, a check variety), In addition Chiang Mai 3 is also resistant to leaf spot and downy mildew and has a good adaptability. Cassava Variety Rayong 72: It was derived from the cross between Rayong 1 and Rayong 5. It shows the highest fresh root yield with a moderate starch content. It performs well in the North-East of Thailand. Single Corn Hybrid Variety Nakhon Sawan 72: It was developed from a cross between two inbred lines, Nei 9008 and Nei 9202. It produces about 28% higher grain yield than an open-pollinated variety, Nakhon Sawan 1. The average grain yield of Nakhon Sawan 72 is about 5.7 t/ha. In addition, it shows resistance to downy mildew. CONTACT DETAILS: Mr. Dhanit Sophanodorn, Field Crops Research Instt, Dept of Agriculture. Chattuchak, Bangkok 10900
