Economical Disaster Resistant Housing Construction system
Shelter Promotion, Engineering & Research Council (SPERC), India has taken up the mission of motivating and networking highly dedicated teams for the cause of shelter promotion by employing the proven innovative construction techniques for the low-income groups of all parts of the world. In this mission-oriented objective, SPERC has come out with its first innovation that is dedicated to the low-income groups of the world. It is an economical disaster resistant construction system invented by SPERC. It is based on simple construction techniques, proven to be highly durable and made affordable to even low-income groups. It is termed as "Steel Stiffened Ferrocement (SSF) Pyramid Shaped House". SPERC do not claim the invention of construction technique, but it is the application of right techniques in innovative ways. Features: Pyramids have been the largest, tallest and heaviest manmade structures for about five thousands of years, which have effectively withstood thousands of natural hazards. Pyramid is a three dimensional shape, without the necessity of a separate roof, as its inclined walls form roofing. Hence, pyramid is the most stable shape of a structure to form as an economical house. In engineering, steel structures are proven to be highly efficient from the angle of strength to weight ratio. Steel structures are also highly durable and require only nominal maintenance. Ferrocement is a special type of concrete construction technique developed few decades back. It is another efficient form of concrete offering high strength to weight ratio, which is also highly durable.
