Vertical-axis Wind Turbine
The Gual SteoEolian is a vertical-axis wind turbine composed of a fixed stator channeling the wind at its optimal force onto a mobile rotor. This enables the StatoEolien to be installed in urban environments and take advantage of the turbulent winds which are unexploitable by a horizontal wind turbine. The power curve of this French design is surprisingly different than power curves for conventional turbines because the output increases until the velocity of the wind is above the lower hurricane levels. It can generate in wind speeds up to 150 km/h (93 mph), and will withstand winds up to 200 km/h (124 mph). Hence, the electricity production rate is 30% superior to horizontal axis wind turbines.
