Near Shore Wave Energy Converter
The Neptune Triton near shore wave energy converter is a seabed mounted, resonant point absorber with 400 kW installed capacity generated from one device. Each device utilises a patent pending, axi-asymmetric buoy driving water hydraulic cylinders, accumulators and turbines into electrical generators mounted on a light weight steel ‘A’ frame piled into the seabed approximately 100 metres off the low tide mark, at depths of approximately 10 metres. Advantages: Structural cost – near shore deployment requires comparatively less steelworks and consequently lower building costs to survive, compared to offshore locations. Phase locked buoy - phase locks reflected wave for maximum efficiency and electricity output and does not generate transmitted waves. Tuned Resonance – the device continuously tunes itself to maximise efficiency and electricity output – in much the same way that wind turbines are pitch regulated. Coastal Protection – salient build up of the shoreline will protect the coastline. O&M – near shore deployment allows easier access and regular maintenance. Mass Production – off the shelf availability of water based hydraulic systems, accumulators and turbines keeps overall engineering processes simple which lowers costs and reduces system downtime.
