An Improved Method for Commercial Manufacturing of Horse Chestnut Extract Having ß- escin Not Less Than 20%.
The present invention discloses a method for manufacturing of extract having 20% ß-escin from horse chestnut which has been shown to promote circulation through the veins. Escin fosters normal tone in the walls of the veins, thereby promoting return of blood to the heart. This has made Horse Chestnut extracts popular, both in topical and internal applications for the treatment of chronic venous insufficiency and, to a lesser extent, varicose veins. Escin also possesses anti-inflammatory properties and has been shown to reduce edema (swelling with fluid) following trauma, particularly following sports injury, surgery, and head injury. A topical preparation having escin is very popular for the treatment of acute sprains during sporting events. The innovation is related to the manufacturing process of standardized extract having all components together with synergistic properties.
Sector: Pharmaceuticals
Country: India
Area of Application: Horse chestnut extract is widely used to support circulatory health. PhytoPharmica’s Horse Chestnut Extract is standardized to contain 20% to 22% saponins calculated as escin, just like the extracts used in the European clinical studies. Escin has been shown to decrease capillary permeability by reducing the number and size of the pores, which improves tone. Horse Chestnut Extract also includes a number of other valuable compounds for vascular health, such as amines, coumarins, cyclitols, flavonoids, phenolic acids, sterols, and tri-terpenes.
Keywords: Horse chestnut, Extraction, Analysis, Escin, HPLC
Advantages: 1. Aesculus indica plant grows wild in temperate and sub-temperate regions of the Himalayan belt from Jammu & Kashmir, Himanchal Pradesh, Uttrakhand and Northeastern states is hence easily available in bulk quality. 2. Seeds are used for the production of escin which are a renewable source from the plant and hence no threat to biodiversity. 3. ß-escin is a natural product and hence no threat to the environment. 4. Application of ß-escin ensures quick and efficient recovery from viral infections. 5. It also helps in plant virus management. 6. ß-escin is produced form A. indica and Aesculus species. As the plant grows wild and it is produced from fruits, which are a renewable source and hundreds of tonns of material, goes unutilized every year.
