Snake Venom as an Analgesic
The present technology provides a substantially non-toxic fraction isolated from the venom of Vipera xanthina. The fraction so isolated has analgesic effect which could be used for treatment of neuropathic pain. The fraction is purified on an ion exchange column from Vipera xanthina palestinae. The purified fraction can be used to prepare a pharmaceutical composition for use an analgesic along with some acceptable carrier such Lanolin and Vaseline. The composition becomes active when administered topically. The composition can also be administered parenteral in a saline solution. Other possible modes of application are oral and rectal. The composition is especially effective with respect to chronic pain, although it may be used to treat any type of pain.
