The Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), organised a ‘Technology Facilitation Consultative Meeting to address the Challenges of COVID-19 Pandemic’ on 23 August 2021 in virtual mode. The meeting was organized in collaboration with the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India.

This meeting was convened for the select member States that are currently facing a surge in COVID-19 cases resulting in severe stress on healthcare systems to understand the needs and availability of reliable and cost-effective healthcare technologies for responding to the pandemic. The meeting witnessed participation from APCTT’s national focal points, representatives from government agencies, R&D institutions, experts from medical associations and other relevant stakeholders from participating member States.  

The meeting envisaged to: (1) increase the understanding of the needs and share information about existing technologies and innovations for addressing the COVID-19 challenges; (2) deliberate and explore collaboration opportunities and strategies for transfer of COVID related technologies between member States to fight the pandemic; and (3) strengthen regional technology cooperation among participating member States to jointly combat the pandemic. The meeting provided a platform to share knowledge about new COVID related technologies and innovations, identify opportunities of cross-country collaborations and explore modalities to share their technology, expertise and experiences.
