APCTT in partnership with the National Nanotechnology Centre (NNC) of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), Malaysia organised an International Conference on Nanotechnology for Safe and Sustainable Development, and Consultative Meeting on proposed Nanosafety Networking Platform from 2 to 4 May 2017 in Putrajaya, Malaysia. This Conference facilitated knowledge sharing between key stakeholders (e.g. policy makers, R&D institutions, technology promotion agencies and the private sector) involved in the innovation, commercialization and application of nanotechnologies in countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The conference discussed key aspects of nanotechnology development such as enabling policy mechanisms, regulatory frameworks, R&D and innovation, research commercialization, technology transfer and safety issues. The conference facilitated regional cooperation with an objective to harness nanotechnology for sustainable development in member countries; and discussed and recommended relevant action plans and strategies for sharing and using testing laboratories and facilities for nanomaterials across the ASEAN region.

Experts and resource persons from Indonesia,  Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand and Viet Nam presented on nanotechnology policies, innovation strategies, research commercialization, technology transfer, safety and risk governance. Presentations were also made by APCTT highlighting the need and mechanisms for promoting regional cooperation to harness the potential of nanotechnology by the countries in the Asia-Pacific region. The conference was attended by more than seventy participants representing diverse stakeholder groups such as policy makers, researchers, industry and nanotechnology promotion organizations.
